Extensive study was made on the properties of BOF slag, subbase coarse materials made from BOF slag, the properties and their change with time of the subbase, and the long-term stability of the BOF slag in the subbase. Tests on a test road, combined with a mineralogical examination on an actual road, have indicated that the pronounced tendency of steel slag toward expansion under ambient conditions can be satisfactorily controlled if it is fully stabilized before use.
