This paper examines the use of directional couplers and matched filters over a broad frequency band for the effective compensation of amplitude-frequency distortions in a microwave channel containing active and passive elements. Particular attention is given to investigating (for use as a compensation device) waveguide matched filters including tuned elements. Such devices with a channel attenuation differential greater than 10 dB can be used for compensation over a frequency band exceeding an octave with good input matching.
