Antiferromagnetism (AF) and hole pair checkerboard in the vortex state of high temperature superconductors was proposed. The yttrium barium copper oxides (YBCO) compounds showed enhanced AF ordering under high magnetic field. It was found that the oxygen sites can detect a spin signal due to the modulation of the AF order parameter amplitude.
