The influence of axial load factors on the magnitude of the natural oscillation frequencies of liquids in rigid cylindrical tanks with flat bottom is examined. A flexible weightless membrane is stretched over the free surface of the liquid. It is shown that in the ″inverted″ tank case, the oscillation frequencies decrease with the increase of the load factor and that a loss of stability may occur. The critical relations for the load factor and membrane tension parameter are found. The theoretical results are confirmed by an experiment.
