A Markovian model of height fluctuations in the temperature, smoothed by a LIDAR pulse, is used to demonstrate the possibility of employing nonlinear Markovian filtering in single-pulse, single-frequency sounding of profiles of the temperature and of associated meteorological and optical properties. Filtering and adaptation equations are found. A numerical simulation is carried out to study the effectiveness of the sounding of the temperature profile.
