Fast-dynamics in plasticized poly(vinyl chloride)

In this work we have investigated the influence of plasticization (i.e. admixture of low molecular weight additives) on the picosecond range fast-dynamics of a glass forming polymer, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). We have investigated samples of plasticized and pure PVC by inelastic neutron scattering and broadband dielectric spectroscopy. Although the suppression of the β relaxation by the plasticizer could be clearly verified by dielectric spectroscopy, the neutron scattering spectra did not show any change of the fast-dynamics. Therefore our results do not support a relationship between the fast-dynamics observed by neutron scattering and the β relaxation. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
