Garrett Turbine Engine Co. is one of the world's largest manufacturers of small gas turbines. Recently, Garrett completed a new gear production facility. It includes processing lines for plating cadmium, lead, nickel and copper and facilities for treating the liquid effluent from those plating operations. A new plating facility designed for environmental compliance and worker safety was added to modernize and to improve worker safety and environmental compliance. The new line was completely designed in-house by the company's plant engineering staff, assisted by a computer-aided design and manufacturing system. The new line has resulted in better working conditions and compliance with environmental regulations.
