Reduction of wire diameters by drawing through shaped dies at high speeds calls for special qualities in the die. The limitations of tungsten carbide and natural diamond single crystals are discussed, and the results of a series of wire drawing tests with De Beers' ″Syndite″ polycrystalline diamond on ferrous and non-ferrous metals are presented. These demonstrate the superiority of ″Syndite″ in terms of wire drawn.
