Examination of the air leakage characteristics of a high pressure rotary valve

Several manufacturers have developed a range of rotary valves in which seals are used to eliminate some of the internal clearances and it is claimed that the reduced leakage makes them suitable for system pressures up to 3 bar g (45 lbf/in2g). This paper discusses the initial results of a program of work which has examined the leakage characteristics of such a valve and compares them with those for a valve of more conventional construction.
