摘要
PCM techniques are a combination of pulse code modulation and time division multiplex transmission and, like frequency-division multiplex (FDM) carrier techniques, permit utilization of a single transmission circuit for more than one telephone channel. The development of a pulse code modulation system for the transmission of 30 telephone channels over a four-wire circuit is reported. The PCM system, which meets CCITT standards, comprises PCM Multiplexing Equipment ZAK 30/32 and PCM Line Equipment ZAD 2. A comparison is made between PCM and FDM carrier systems. Standardization and future prospects are discussed.
