The author looks at the steady growth in the market for combined cycle plants in Europe, southeast Asia and the Pacific Basin. It is shown that these market developments only followed the introduction of high-output single shaft gas turbines by the leading European, U. S. and Japanese manufacturers. Significantly, a high percentage of these engines have been ordered with exhaust heat recovery - for industrial CHP (combined heat and power) and district heating, for sea water desalination, and in conventional combined cycle configurations.
