Analysis and shear calculation of RC mega-frame beam-column core regions

The behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) mega-frame beam-column core regions was studied by calculating the shear force and the shear capacity of each portion of the core regions. The theory of reinforced concrete membrane elements was used to develop a theoretical method for analyzing the behavior of beam-column core regions. This method was used to calculate the load-carrying capacity of the core region of four RC mega-frame beam-column joint specimens and to analyze the failure process of one of the four specimens, which sustained damage in its core region. The ultimate analysis method was used to calculate the beam bending capacity of the specimens. The analytical results agree well with the test results. The experimental and theoretical results were used to develop a new method for calculating the shear force and shear capacity of RC mega-frame beam-column core regions, which could be used to design RC mega-frames.
