MAINTENANCE OF HIGH SPEED UNDERGROUND LOCOMOTIVE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS.

The paper describes the operation and maintenance associated with the high speed (40km/h) underground locomotive manriding transport systems in use at several collieries in the North East Area of British Coal. Reference is made to the equipment, manpower and facilities necessary to monitor and maintain the locomotives, rolling stock and track. Because the locomotives employed are predominantly diesel powered, the paper reflects the maintenance requirement of diesels although reference is made to trolley wire and storage battery systems.
