Future strategies for Indian pesticides industry

The Indian Pesticides Industry is required to recognise the shift in the control of pests affecting the Indian Agriculture from chemical pest control to pest management. Such a shift in the perspective involves a re-orientation from Synthetic Organic Chemistry to biochemistry, biotechnology and genetic engineering. R & D efforts should be directed towards synthesis of bio control agents and novel ecofriendly molecules having least effect on the environment. This requires enhanced expenditure on R & D and institutional and financial support from the government bodies besides a pragmatic approach from the regulatory authorities. The industry should further increase their efforts towards improved extension services capable of creating an awareness in the farming community towards sustainable ecofriendly agriculture.
