摘要
The melting control data on numerous commercial melts of carbon and alloy steels made in electric furnaces have been analyzed statistically; they demonstrate the important effects of sulphur and phosphorus on the entire range of physical and mechanical properties. Melts with S and P contents exceeding the GOST specification limits fail on low-temperature impact value and give high inclusion counts; macrosections etch more rapidly than normal and high scrap rates are incurred because of superficial defects on the castings.
