The paper discusses the subjects that cover service failures and the importance of corrosion; the aircraft structure environment; corrosion aided fatigue cracking; corrosion pits and fatigue crack initiation; corrosion assisted fatigue crack growth; anodize pits as fatigue strength reducing features; the effect of pits and other defects as fatigue life reducing features; and fatigue testing for life evaluation.
