The new generation of Pechiney 175 kA cells for electrolytic production of primary Al is described. The article describes the principal characteristics of the units, such as optimum bath composition, automatic feeding of raw materials, tapping, individual computer control with microprocessors, performance characteristics, etc. Fume cleaning and effluent treatment is also described.
