Thickness of die sets for hot-stamping crank presses

During the stamping of high-precision forgings it is necessary to determine the thickness of the plates of the die set by the finite element method in cases where the calculated stamping force is nearly equal to the nominal press force. If the stamping force is less than 75% of the nominal force, elastic sags of the plates decrease by an order of magnitude and they can be ignored. Sags of die plates depend significantly on the load distribution on the backup plate. The sag can be reduced without significant reduction of the die set if an intermediate block is used in which small working inserts are installed.
