An outline is given of investigations during the past twenty years on fluidized-bed magnetizing roasting, direct reduction and selective sulfatization of a few typical low-grade and complex Chinese iron ores. Particular reference is made to the development of dilute-phase heat transfer as a means of nonautogenous roasting on a multi-tonnage basis.
