Rough cleaning and electrolytic cleaning operations are carried out on all base materials in the same solution; the current density and treatment period in electrolytic cleaning may, however, vary. The activation methods for various base materials are, on the other hand, different. In principle, electrolytic activation is employed, the composition of the solution, the electrolyzing current (direct current or current reversal), and the treatment times being varied. Information on the pretreatment, processing times, and intermediate coatings (which are likewise different) are presented in tabular form for the individual metals.
