摘要
The purpose of this paper is to clarify the question associated with the performance that can be expected from, and achieved by hybrid character recognition equipment using optical direction filtering for the automatic recognition of alphanumeric characters. Three new direction filtering methods employing white light are compared with three important, previously known, coherent-optical methods. The incoherent methods are shown to be advantageous as compared with coherent methods. The application to recognizing nonstandardized alphanumeric characters is pointed out.
