A forecast was made over 25 years ago that high-capacity traps and oil pools are associated with the alluvial-proluvial deposits of paleorivers, which was confirmed by the discovery in 1976 of the unique Talin deposit. To discover nonstructural oil pools associated with paleoriver sandstones, drilling was done in areas of erosion. No less than 150 pools have been discovered in the Jurassic petroliferous stage, but the most capacious traps and the largest pools are associated with the Lower Jurassic deposits in the Sherkala formation at the Talin deposit. The paper sites Early Jurassic lake-seas as important areas for prospecting for oil and gas pools.
