The reaction between 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl(hexafluoropropane and a twofold molar equivalent of m-dinitrobenzene on conditions of aromatic nucleophilic nitrosubstitution was used to prepare 2,2-bis-[4-(3-nitrophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane which was subsequently reduced to 2,2-bis-[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane. Polycyclocondensation of this diamine with some dianhydrides of aromatic tetracarboxylic acids in m-cresol gave polyimides characterized by high thermal stability, good solubility in organic solvents, and comparatively low softening points. These properties account for the improved processibility of the synthesized polyimides.
