I. Lunar Geology

As a means of enlarging opportunities for communication between scientific researchers and the public, the Bulletin has prepared a series of interviews with scientists engaged in several fields of research on the nature and implications of their work. With the Apollo 16 flight to Descartes in the lunar highlands scheduled this month, we invited a leading investigator associated with the Apollo program in lunar rock analysis to discuss the discoveries the program has made on the moon and their contribution toward the understanding of the origin and evolution of the Earth-moon system. He is Professor Joseph V. Smith, a geologist in the Department of Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago.
