Deep cryogenics is a proven method of producing steel that boasts improved hardness, toughness, wear resistance, and resistance to fatigue cracking. However in order to consistently obtain these benefits, new time-temperature rules must be applied to the post-cryogenic treatment temper. This report details new information about using the Nu-Bit Process, a rapid, deep cryogenic method, as an in-inline extended quench performed after conventional quenching and before a single, modified temper.
