A theoretical and experimental investigation is reported of the polarization characteristics of the three-photon absorption of light in CdS crystals. Linear-circular three-photon dichroism was observed in these crystals and it was particularly strong near the three-photon absorption edge. The dichroism depended nonmonotonically on the frequency of the exciting light. The experimental results were in qualitative agreement with a theoretical calculation.
