A case study is presented which describes how computers are being used routinely in the quality inspection of packaging components. The economic factors which have led to this development are reviewed within the context of the packaging industry in general, and within Johnson Wax Ltd. in particular. A detailed description is given of the salient features of the equipment. The paper closes with suggested areas for consideration by managers involved with introducing computer techniques, based upon operating experience.
