摘要
The technique is also applicable to non-uniform rods. The solution of a nonlinear differential equation is avoided by considering the rod as a series of short rod segments. Each segment undergoes only small strains and small relative rotations so that the differential equation governing its shape is linear and easily solvable. The method is illustrated by two problems; the stiffened caternary and the tapered cantilever under distributed and concentrated loads.
