AISI Types 304L, 316L, 317L, 317LM, 321L and 347L were welded with 308L filler metal. In all materials the weld bead microstructures were the most susceptible to corrosion. The HAZ microstructures were more corrosion susceptible than the wrought microstructure but less so than the weld bead. Corrosion behavior is dominated by the distribution of molybdenum across the gamma / delta interface. The formation mechanism of weld bead delta controls corrosion behavior.
