Survey your options: continuous emissions monitoring

An overview of the current status of continuous emissions monitoring (CEM) systems is presented. Some of the new developments that will affect future monitoring configurations are also provided. Noteworthy new techniques are discussed that include continuous emissions monitoring using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analyzers, laser-based opacity monitors, and the growing use of soft-ware based, predictive CEMs. Also discussed is a new approach that overcomes the problems associated with measuring SO2 in fluegas streams downstream of NOx-reduction systems that use ammonia or urea injection.
