The service processor (SVP), a program-controlled unit that is functionally independent from the computer mainframe, has been developed to handle the man-machine interface in system operating and maintenance for DIPS-11 Model 45. The SVP provides system control, maintenance, diagnostic and operator console functions, using the light-pen or display keyboard. In addition to these functions, SVP performs functions in program control that do not require much speed, for computer mainframe hardware simplification. A description is given of the basic design concept and implementation of the operating and maintenance functions on the SVP for DIPS-11 Model 45.
