摘要
Metalworking can be divided roughly into two sections, metal cutting, and metal forming where there is no loss of metal, but rather redistribution into another shape. In both cases there is a distinct chemical similarity between the types of lubricant used. This is because pressures are high and normally lubricants able to show extreme pressure properties can operate satisfactorily in both kinds of environment. However, the form of lubricant used and its presentation to the tool or workpiece does vary considerably. All lubrication depends on a film formation between the moving surfaces. Such a film may be fluid, paste, or solid; but the key feature is that the moving surfaces, usually metal, must be kept apart.
