A subsidiary of Repap Enterprises, Miramichi mill, is Canada's newest paper mill, and it will soon have completed its first year of operation, successfully. Valmet Dominion supplied the Symformer PM, the first of its type of make LWC in North America. The machine trims at 7. 62 m, and has a design speed of 1,370 m/min. It has a Sym-Flo headbox with integral air pad and a 8. 1-m slice. Wet pressing is done in a three-nip press section, the Sym-Press II, having a separate fourth nip. The Voith off-machine blade coater, with a design speed of 1,500 m/min, is said to be the fastest, widest coater currently running in North America. It has two short dwell coating applicator heads. The coating is dried with TEC Systems' airfloat dryers followed by four conventional paper machine dryers for each side.
