FAMILY OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS LSIs.

Telecommunications LSIs are seeing a rapid market expansion and major technological advances. These trends are in line with a growing demand for telephone and non-telephone services, such as data and facsimile communications, in public and private networks. They correspond as well to progress in digital communications technology. All of these factors are supported by LSIs. Areas of LSI application can be grouped into (1) terminals and subscriber circuits for use in existing analog networks, and (2) next-generation equipment for ISDN use. The article below describes the present state of Hitachi's LSI products in the first group, noting features of some representative products. Next, some approaches being taken in creating LSIs for ISDN applications are introduced, along with an update on current development efforts at Hitachi.
