The article examines an important metallurgical operation - investment casting, or 'lost wax' as it is sometimes termed - one that is receiving greater attention, particularly in connection with aircraft engine design and light alloys, for example. Current technological developments in this field are referenced to some major investment foundries and to suppliers of relevant equipment.
