Modern offshore technology

Due to the Middle East oil crisis early in the 1970s and the advanced maturity of many classical onshore production areas, there has been a huge growth in the exploitation of the world's offshore hydrocarbon resources in the period 1970-2000. Throughout this period, the implementation of new technological developments has been critical to the start-up of new discoveries, viable production of previously uneconomic accumulations and the maximizing of economic production from existing production facilities. Modern offshore technologies and their impact on the petroleum industry in Norway and elsewhere in the world are presented.
