Conceptual design of 1 MJ KrF laser system

Strongly saturated high gain operation is proposed for amplifiers of KrF laser ICF (Inertial Confinement Fusion) driver. This operation mode gives high output power density, high energy extraction efficiency and high stage gain at the same time. Conceptual design of 1 MJ KrF laser driver based on the high gain amplifier is also presented. The design is based on 65 kJ / 260 ns amplifier unit and 8 ns × 32 pulse multiplexing, and only 3 stages are required to reach 1 MJ output energy.
