Laser-induced electromotive force of a metal-superconductor Y-Ba-Cu-O junction

We report an experimental investigation on the laser induced electromotive force effect of a metal-superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-δ junction around Tc. The experimental method and results are presented in detail. With a 632.8 nm He-Ne laser, the induced voltage-temperature dependence was obtained. Two photovoltaic effects with different signs were discovered and tentatively explained. The curve for non-superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O was compared with that for superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-δ. In addition, the effect of probes of different metals on the induced electromotive force was studied.
