From the consolidated undrained triaxial tests and field vane shear tests on soft cohesive soils, it has been revealed that anisotropy and nonhomogeneity of shear strength of slightly over-consolidated soils behave mainly in cohesion. A set of hyperbolic nonlinear differential equations which are applicable to anisotropic and nonhomogeneous soils are obtained. By solving these equations, the bearing capacity of footing is obtained and presented in the form of charts in nondimensional form for various parameters considered. The results reveal that anisotropy and nonhomogeneity have considerable effect on the bearing capacity and stress characteristic of footing.
