Results of determination of temperature of the monochromatic radiative capacity, of the work of the electron output of the arc spot surface on zirconium and hafnium cathodes during their operation in an atmosphere of nitrogen, air, carbon dioxide, and water vapors are presented. The discharge is considered on a partly molten surface made up of nitrides (for nitrogen) or oxides (air, CO//2m H//2O) of zirconium and hafnium respectively. The temperature level of the arc spot surface lies within the range of 3600-4200 K, the monochromatic radiating capacity within the wavelength range of 0. 4-1. 2 mu m epsilon lambda equals 0. 8-0. 9.
