Dynamic radiography of aero gas turbines using a Radiation Dynamics high energy (8 MeV) linear accelerator was first carried out at Rolls-Royce in September 1970 on an Olympus 593 engine. Since this time, film radiography has been carried out on most of the engines manufactured by Rolls-Royce Ltd. To date, over 4000 exposures have been made resulting in over 10,000 radiographs for analysis. The article describes a number of the problems associated with the technique, and their solution.
