Laboratory flotation machines perform differently. The most widely used are the Denver, Wemco and Agitair machines and the Leeds Autofloat cell. Comparisons are frequently made by taking the final recovery obtained as the criterion of performance. However, when a laboratory flotation cell is used to analyze flotation performance, the influence of a variable on the kinetics of flotation is often more significant than its effect on final recovery. The present study compares various flotation machines and cell configurations on the basis of both the rate of flotation, as indicated by the recovery after 60 s, and the final recovery.
