Intensification of thermochemical treatment processes in the Cu-Zn-Si during liquid phase formation

Brass siliconizing results in formation of a molten zone in diffusion layer as well as to supersaturation of surface zone with vacancies. Localization of liquid phase in layer and absence of surface fusion are provided by interdiffusion of components and zinc sublimation from surface during treatment. Localization can be influenced by impurities. During uphill diffusion their concentration is increased through a decrease in surrounding solid matrix. Then previously uniform impurity distribution becomes non- uniform which inhibits an increase of liquid phase fraction. Molten zone formed in a coat leads to stress relaxation in diffusion layer, improves its adherence to matrix thus improving the performance of coats.
