Variable frequency speed control of refrigeration compressors. Part 1

As the cost of electronic control devices drops and control technology advances, variable speed compressors are being used increasingly for refrigeration systems to reduce energy consumption and tighten control over load temperatures. This article examines the advantages, disadvantages, component capabilities, options and protection needed in variable speed refrigeration systems. It is the intent of this series to provide a better understanding of the basic requirements of variable speeed refrigeration.
