Longuet-Higgins derived the probability distribution of the maximum amplitude in a finite sample of N amplitudes, assuming a narrow band spectrum and that the amplitudes are statistically independent. Records of surface displacement having different duration, D has been numerically simulated, using Rice's model in the way proposed by Borgman. Simulated data has been fitted by the least squared method obtaining the parameters A and B. For each spectrum and duration, one hundred values of H//m//a//x have been fitted to obtain A and B.
