A study was made of the sources of accumulation of unoxidized sulfur compounds during complex treatment of alkali aluminosilicate raw material, and of the possibility of removing these compounds from the process during the sintering of the charge. It was established that the main source of emanation of unoxidized sulfur compounds in the process is sulfur in the fuel. A large quantity of these compounds circulates with the materials of alumina and soda production and is removed from the process with the belite sludge during leaching of the sinter and with the soda products during the processing of soda-potash solutions. It is shown that during the sintering of an alumina-containing charge the unoxidized sulfur compounds are not removed from the material. Therefore the reuse of potash mother liquors for charge preparation is undesirable.
