This paper is concerned with theory and practice of the fluid dynamic behavior in a venturi-scrubber with particular attention to the possibility of predicting the particle collection efficiency. Atomization and energy-dissipation in the venturi-throat were measured in a pilot-plant to gain a better understanding of these phenomena. The results show that the liquid first disintegrates in a great number of small lamella-like particles with extreme small membrane thickness. Droplets of equal mass-contents would have much smaller surface acting for particle diameters and the pressure loss in the venturi-throat are reported together with deliberation on the collection effect.
