摘要
The combustion process and the exhaust emissions of a diesel engine with a dual-fuel (ethanol-diesel) injection system have been investigated. The combustion process of ethanol fuel can be explained by the flame propagation. The soot formed by the combustion of diesel fuel can be reduced by the combustion of ethanol. The maximum substitution rate of ethanol for diesel fuel reaches 96 vol%. Though the indicated thermal efficiency of the dual-fuel injection engine is about 4% lower than that of the original engine operated with diesel fuel at low load, it is about 1% higher than that of the original engine at high load. Smoke emissions are extremely low resulting in smoke-free operation. CO emissions are the same. Though HC emissions are about 2 times higher than that of the original engine,NO//x emissions decrease to about a 50% lower value.
