The first mining courses were offered in the fall and winter of 1974-75. Since the program and the enrollment picture have changed and, along with them, the original concept for the direction of the mining effort at Pitt. What caused the switch to academic emphasis and how it was achieved on an accelerated basis involved a number of factors.
