Attention is drawn to the necessity and, at the same time, to the difficulties of mechanizing auxiliary operations. For mechanization of operations of this type, universal machines are suitable. Such a machine, called SZTREK, was designed by the Moscow Region Coal Research Institute. It mechanizes over 20 operations. The specification of the machine, examples of application, and tests carried out with the machine under different conditions in various mines and coalfields of the Soviet Union are given. By using this machine, a two- to fourfold increasing in productivity was obtained on the average in comparison with manual operations.
